Imagine a system of healthcare embracing the body’s natural abilities. Staying healthy starts with maintaining the structure and alignment of your body, eating a healthy diet, exercising for life, and maintaining a positive outlook on life and your relationships. Imagine if dangerous drugs would rarely be needed and frightening surgeries would rarely be necessary. Such a natural system of healing exists, and its foundation is Chiropractic. For over 100 years, doctors of chiropractic have focused on these very aspects of holistic healing; structure, function, diet, exercise and a positive mental outlook.
More specifically, Chiropractors look for areas of misalignment in the spine that put pressure on the nerves, thus causing malfunctions in the body. These misalignments of the spine are called subluxations. The chiropractor treats the subluxation by initiating a gentle movement in the spine, called an adjustment. Adjustments can be performed by hand, or with various instruments. By relieving this nerve pressure, the body’s natural functions can be restored. It’s as simple as that!
While the roots of manipulation are in antiquity, true chiropractic began in 1895 in Iowa. Today, Chiropractic has grown into the largest natural primary health care profession in the world. Chiropractic is practiced around the world and is taught in accredited colleges in America, Japan, England, Australia, Canada, France, Mexico, Brazil and South Africa.
Acupuncture began approximately 2,500 BC. In simple terms, Acupuncture is about the balance of energy in the body. Too much or too little energy in one place (in the body) is bad, first creating malfunction in the body, then sickness and disease, even death. On the other hand, even distribution of energy throughout the body supports health and wellness. Acupuncture and Chiropractic have very similar philosophies and work well when used together.
